Follow us through the streets, squares and alleys frequented by Dante in his adopted city of Verona, after he was banished from Florence. Join us on this innovative and unique walking tour to discover an unprecedented Verona, seen through Dante Alighieri’s experiences and writing.

Listen to his verses, explore his places, and become part of his Verona: the city that took in and protected this genius who would later give a language and an identity to an entire country.

Dante Alighieri is doubtlessly one of the most acclaimed writers in history and the Divine Comedy, his masterpiece, possibly the greatest work of all time.

After he was banished from his home city of Florence, during the feuds between the Guelfs and Ghibellines in the late thirteenth century, he reached Verona and became a guest of Cangrande Della Scala. Cangrade was the most famous and glorious lord of the town.

And it was right here, in Verona, that Dante composed most of his Paradiso: the third and last part of the Divine Comedy that the poet dedicated in its entirety to his friend and host, Cangrande.

Without Verona and its ruler’s foresight and magnanimity, this masterpiece of Italian literature would have never been completed or worse yet, might have never survived through the centuries.

This tour is led by an engaging local expert on Dante who is eager to share his knowlege with you.

• Piazza delle Erbe: Dante’s favorite market square, unchanged since his time
• Piazza dei Signori: how Dante’s presence in Verona was fundamental not only to the city but to all of Italy
• Churches of St. Elena and St. Fermo: important in Dante’s time in Verona
• The tombs of the Scaligeri family, including that of Cangrande
• The gardens of Piazza Garibaldi, where Dante wrote much of his Paradiso

9:00 am
Meet your English-speaking guide for a walking tour of 3 ½ hours. Meeting point is in Piazza Brà, Verona.

12:30 pm
Finish the walk back in Piazza Brà.

Please note that there is a short break scheduled during the tour of approx. 15 min. half-way through the itinerary.
You will have time for a coffee or snack.
